|Ballistic Knife||Starting Ammo: 1||Max Ammo: 1 + 4||Cost: 950|
The Ballistic Knife is available in all Black Ops and Black Ops II zombie maps (excluding Dead Ops Arcade, Mob of the Dead, and Origins) via the Mystery Box. The user is able to melee more quickly when the weapon is equipped and can also fire knives individually. Both attacks are a one hit kill on the first four rounds. A fired blade resulting in a headshot will deal double damage, killing an enemy on round 9. Fired blades can be retrieved by the player, but will disappear if the weapon is traded away or Max Ammo is received.
Although the Ballistic Knife has a much higher stabbing strength than the Combat Knife in Zombies, it usually isn't a favorable weapon, due to its low ammo count, low rate of fire, and the close proximity to enemies required for its use. When Pack-a-Punched, it becomes the "Krauss Refibrillator" with increased damage and ammunition reserves. Furthermore, fired blades will revive a teammate instantly, which will award the secret trophy/achievement: "See Me, Stab Me, Heal Me". But, if the user is downed, the Krauss Refibrillator will not revive downed teammates.
If the Bowie Knife or Sickle is purchased, it will replace the regular knife when wielding the Ballistic Knife. This combination doubles the Ballistic Knife's normal damage. (Incidentally, this is the same as the normal damage dealt by the Bowie Knife or Sickle.) Using the Bowie Knife or Sickle with the Krauss Refibrillator deals double the damage than any of them would individually, killing in one hit up to and including round 16.
Due to the Ballistic Knife's high risk of use and minimal effectiveness, it is recommended to use only in a limited capacity, if at all. Its most practical uses include building points quickly on very low rounds, as part of a melee-centric challenge class, or when playing as a medic (because of the upgraded version's unique effects). Uniquely, the Ballistic Knife grants the user 110% base movement speed when equipped, allowing them to evade enemy attacks more easily while sprinting.
- The Pack-A-Punch version is named after a medical device called a Defibrillator, a machine which electrically stimulates a patient's heart, in an effort to resuscitate them, usually during cardiac arrest.
- When the player aims at a downed teammate, their crosshair will be blue.
